General Dynamics reshuffles senior executive responsibilities

This move includes the creation of a new company-wide role called executive vice president of global operations.

General Dynamics has undertaken a series of changes in responsibilities across its senior executive team, with two leaders focused on the company’s technology businesses involved in the reshuffle.

As a refresh of GD’s corporate structure, the segment it calls Technologies comprises the IT services unit called GDIT and a defense and space hardware unit called Mission Systems.

Jason Aiken has led the technologies segment as executive vice president for two-and-a-half years, the first of which he continued to work as the company’s chief financial officer as he had for the nine years prior.

GD said Wednesday that Aiken will now hold the title of executive VP for just the mission systems unit and also work in the same capacity for the combat systems segment, a role formerly held by 24-year company veteran Danny Deep.

Deep was promoted to EVP of global operations, a newly-created role covering the entire company.

“Danny will focus on improving operating performance across each of the company’s business units during this period of growth and change,” GD’s chief executive Phebe Novakovic said in a release.

Amy Gilliland, president of GDIT for the past eight years, has been promoted to the EVP ranks and will continue to lead that business unit.

Rob Smith, EVP for the marine systems segment, will continue in that role. Mark Burns was promoted to the EVP ranks and will continue as president of Gulfstream.
